The primary goal behind EmGENDER is to create a space for us to communicate, collaborate and co-activate (activate /aktɪveɪt/ verb, make (something) active or operative. Synonyms: operate, switch on, turn on, start, start off, start up, set going, get going, trigger off, trigger, trip, set in motion, actuate, initiate, initialize, energize, animate) on gender justice in Malawi. UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka stresses that violence against women can and must end by addressing its root cause – gender inequality. – See more at: www.unwomen.org

Tomorrow is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the first day of the #16Days Campaign. The campaign hopes to raise awareness about gender-based violence as a human rights issue at the local, national, regional and international level.

Positioning the 16 Days Campaign from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and December 10 (Human Rights Day) rightfully stresses that gender-based violence is an international human rights violation. (Center for Women’s Global Leadership)

This year’s theme is ”Let’s challenge militarism and end violence against women”. EmGENDER will feature 16 posts on VAW in Malawi with a focus on interactions between women, girls and the criminal justice system.

Key dates include:

  • 25 November: International Day of No Violence Against Women
  • 1 December: World AIDS Day;
  • 3 December: International Day for the Disabled;
  • 10 December: Human Rights Day

Join the conversation, come be a part of the change you want to see in Malawi. Help promote gender justice and freedom from violence so that we can realise the Malawi SHE wants.
